Early Show’s Rodriguez To Coulter: Don’t Republicans Have To Move To Middle?

The Early Show exiled Ann Coulter to its second half-hour today in favor of a peanut-butter update.  And once there, Ann was tripled-team by the Early Show anchors. But that didn’t stop her from making the point that, now more than ever, Republicans need to stick by their principles.

Coulter did so in the face of the suggestion from Maggie Rodriguez that what Republicans should really be doing is, of course,  moving to the middle.

MAGGIE RODRIGUEZ: Don’t you think that right now, it is, it behooves the Republicans to be a little bit more in the middle. Their voices aren’t going to be heard anyway, as we saw with the stimulus plan.  Even if they want something, if the Democrats want something else, that’s what’s going to happen. So doesn’t it behoove them to be more bi-partisan and meet in the middle?

Coulter rightly wasn’t buying . . .

ANN COULTER: It’s just the reverse.  I mean, we just ran John McCain, we are so sick of being in the middle. And the other thing is, when you govern, you do have to, Republicans had to accede to demands of their President, George Bush, like the huge prescription drug program, they weren’t very happy with the amnest bill. so you know we already, or they, as politicians, have had to compromise and engage in horse trading. Now we can be principled!

If freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose, why should Republicans sacrifice their principles if Rodriguez is right and they’re going to get rolled by the Dems anyway?

Note: Harry Smith actually got the segment off to a good start, suggesting that Rush Limbaugh’s comment about wanting Pres. Obama to fail had been taken out of context.  Smith: “[Rush]wants big government to fail . . . I don’t think he’s sitting there saying as an American citizen, I want the presidency of the country to fail.”

Nice to see 1 drivebye media type actually appear to TRY to be Fair..Good work, Harry Smith. As for the rest, Ann is right. The Republican party has been Center since 2000. President Bush was Conservative as far as National Security went, but as for the rest he was pretty much either center or center/left. As for Ms. Rodriguez, she should have LOVED President Bush, if only for his SPENDING, which he did like a Liberal at his First Convention (without the wife).

Kind of a shocking comment from Harry Smith. I heard Ann say yesterday on Fox, paraphrasing, how it is fun to be able to be the one leveling complaints all of the time. Ann is right though, now is not the time to move left, now is the time to have the left move closer to reality, or center.

    Ann is 100% correct.

The middle is for losers…I am sick of this milquetoast centrist thinking of the big-wigs behind the scenes…this is why we have been losing.

Ann speaks volumes for people like me, she is one of my heroines.
