Hillary, First-Person Singular Secretary Of State

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.
Check out the video clip of Hillary Clinton, in Japan, speaking to Andrea Mitchell about the situation in North Korea:

HILLARY CLINTON: I want to make it as clear as I can, as I have on numerous occasions, that if the North Koreans do decide to fulfill their obligations and achieve de-nuclearization and  end proliferation, there are opportunities awaiting them that I think would be very attractive.

One sentence.  Four uses of the first-person singular. References to President Obama, or the United States of America?  Zero.  Hillary’s statement reads as if she were president, not that other guy. Whatever his name is.

You might write this off as a grammatical blip. But this isn’t the first time I’ve been struck by Hillary’s grandiose, self-centered concept of her role.  Do you recall her staged, televised address to the State Department troops when she first assumed office?  It was largely about her own vision for the department and the world.

For that matter, what did Hillary mean in stating  “I have on numerous occasions” made clear the offer to North Korea? She’s only been Sec. of State for a couple weeks.  Was she referring to pronouncements she made in her new job . . . or as a presidential candidate?

Imagine you’re Pres. Obama or a senior White House official watching the clip here.  Doesn’t it make you uneasy/angry to see a Secretary of State making it so much about herself?  I think this bears watching. My prediction: a clash is going to come.

That would depend on which White House “official” we are talking about. The problem is, Obama’s White House is rather loaded up with Clinton retreads, and I am not a little suspicious of where their loyalties actually may lie.

Given the rancor that arose between the Clinton and Obama camps during the primaries, I was not a little surprised when Obama began digging up former Clintonistas and sending them out to fill many important cabinet positions. I was positively floored when he picked Broom Hilda for SEC STATE.

I would have thought a person who ran on a platform of “hope” and “change” would have wanted to steer well clear of the old guard Washingtonians, particularly that crowd.

I believe what Hillary said was deliberate, as she may be a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of her problems.

She is definitely up to something. I mean, when has she ever not been?

Great point. This might get really interesting.
