I thought the most newsworthy comment of the week by an inside-the-Beltway kibbitzer was this by Howard Fineman:
“Everybody’s trying to take their measure of Barack Obama, all the power players in Washington. And frankly, they think they can roll him.”
Now David Broder, “dean of the Washington Press Corps” [legally-required description] has said something very similar . . .
Writing in his “End of the Honeymoon” column of today, Broder observes [emphasis added]:
“Congress has taken note of the way Obama backed down from his anti-earmark stance, a clear signal that he is leery of any showdown with the lawmakers. Despite his popularity, Obama is not an intimidating figure, and so he can expect to be tested time and again.”
As my mother says: if one person tells you you’re drunk, ignore him. If two people tell you: lie down . . .

I wonder if anyone else out there in the world is listening…who is next to test the man of Jello…?
Troubling thought.
D1, I just have to say to you and the other regular commenters here that I feel so fortunate to have such a great group of posters: well-informed, intelligent and insightful. I was concerned that I might be bombarded with trolls, or over-the-top folks, but instead we have an absolute great group here. Thanks, and please keep the posts coming.
Thanks, Mark. You bet. Do you remember the first email you got from NB readers when you first posted your address. Yep, same D1. I have been reading your posts since day one. Keep doing what you do.
I was concerned that I might be bombarded with trolls, or over-the-top folks,…..
They’re coming, trust me. Those types never sleep, never quit and are just awaiting orders from someone with a higher IQ than themselves.
About 65 or so would work.
D1…
I agree with your sentiments regarding Mark and his work…
I hope with time this site builds.
