“[The American people] have been sold a bill of goods. This legislation will not accomplish anything that the people are being promised.“ — Rush Limbaugh, show of February 13, 2009
[Pres. Obama's bank rescue plan] fills me with a sense of despair . . . [T]he real problem with this plan is that it won’t work. — Paul Krugman, NY Times column, March 23, 2009 [emphasis added]
Next time Rush Limbaugh takes some time off, perhaps he should consider inviting Paul Krugman to fill in at the Golden EIB Microphone.
Judging by his recent columns, it looks like the Nobel Prize-Winning Economist [legally-prescribed nomenclature] has become something of a Dittohead.
As you’ll see from the quotes above, about a month after Rush declared that the president’s economic plans will fail, Krugman has come to the same conclusion. Rush was speaking in general terms, and Krugman was today focusing on the new bank rescue plan. But the bottom line is the same: this isn’t going to work.
Now it’s true that Krugman’s proposed remedy is at odds with Rush’s. The Princeton prof proposes that the government guarantee bank debt and take temporary control of insolvent banks. Rush would presumably prefer to let free markets seek their own level.
But now that Paul has taken the first big step toward Dittohead-dom, those are details we can work out. Taking a page from Pres. Obama’s book message to Iran, perhaps Rush can record a special video message to the New York Times, to be broadcast on May 1st as the folks at the Gray Lady celebrate socialist solidarity on May Day . . .
