Let’s create a corollary to the rule the first person to invoke the Nazi analogy loses the argument: The first person to invoke the Israelis/Jews as Nazis analogy is consigned to a particularly unpleasant corner of loser hell.
Is Israel’s handling of the situation in Gaza open to vigorous debate? Sure. Though I’d ask Americans to imagine how they would want their government to respond if, say, over a period of years the Mexican government indiscriminately lobbed thousands of missiles into civilian areas of US border towns.
But Oliphant’s cartoon takes things a quantum leap further, depicting Israel as a jack-booted, goose-stepping soldier, wielding an engine of a war that is nothing less than a fanged Jewish star, to attack a Gaza that symbolized by a small, defenseless woman.
Pat Oliphant should be enjoying an extended sojourn in political cartoonist loser Hades.
Note: the AP story by one Raquel Maria Dillon that alerted me to the cartoon added insult to injury, saying that the cartoon “alludes to Israel’s aggression on the Gaza Strip.” So that’s how the situation can be neatly summarized, eh? Sounds like Raquel Maria’s an Oliphant fan. Oh, and need I add that someone with Oliphant’s political predilections is, predictably, a Pulitzer Prize winner?

Notice the anti-Semite who penned this cartoon has the Star of David, which is being used to represent Israel, riding along on a unicycle.
I suppose we are to infer from this that the cartoonist believes (hopes?) Israel might soon be thrown under the bus by the U.S. and be left on its own?
