But at his press conference tonight, PBO employed similar logic to justify his refusal to close the Mexican border to prevent additional people infected with swine flu—walking if unwitting biological weapons you might say—from entering our country . . . .
His claim came in response to the evening’s very first question, from Jennifer Loven of the Associated Press.
JENNIFER LOVEN: Can you talk about whether you think it’s time to close the border with Mexico and whether, under what conditions, you might consider quarantining, when that might be appropriate.
After calling for concern but not panic, and a scientific response to the situation, the president continued . .
BARACK OBAMA: I’ve consulted with our public health officials extensively, on a day-to-day basis, in some cases an hour-to-hour basis. At this point they have not recommended a border closing. From their perspective it would be akin to closing the barn door after the horses are out. Because we already have cases here in the United States.
Surely the president can’t believe this. He can’t believe that having a relatively few carriers of the disease in the country poses as much of a threat as having thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of infected people coming into the country from Mexico.
So if science isn’t—can’t be—the explanation, what is?

It is insulting. He thinks the American people are dumb. His arrogance is going to get someone hurt.
I am certainly no legal expert, but there is such a thing as dereliction and criminal negligence.

Obama’s excuse of “…it would be akin to closing the barn door after the horses are out” applies only if ALL OF THE HORSES GOT OUT. There are still millions of HORSES in the Mexican barn, and more of them are going out the door every day.
I am guessing the Mexican president asked Obama not to close the border so that more illegals can get into the USA and send money back to their families. That used to be the number two income of Mexico, after oil sales. The Mexican president doesn’t want that income cut off, and Obama will listen to a dictator before he will listen to a leader from a free country.
