Did Ed Schultz really think he could get away with this? On his MSNBC show this evening, he condemned a David Feherty joke fantasizing about the death of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. But Schultz opened the same show by saying that he is “so glad that Wanda Sykes took it to Rush Limbaugh” in her comedy routine at the White House correpondents dinner. You know, a routine that included . . . a joke fantasizing about the death of Rush Limbaugh.
To make matters worse, in the clip he played of Sykes’ routine, Schultz was careful to leave out the bit where she hoped that Rush would suffer kidney failure.
Here’s Schultz’s show opener.
ED SCHULTZ: My thoughts on the White House correspondents dinner, the best jokes, and why I’m so glad Wanda Sykes took it Rush Limbaugh.
As Schultz played his Sykes clip later on, the graphic “Syked!” appeared on screen, letting viewers know just how enthused Schultz was by her performance. But check out the Sykes’ death wish for Rush [in parantheses] that Schultz conveniently didn’t include.
WANDA SYKES: Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails. So you said, I hope America fails. I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was just so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight. [Rush Limbaugh: "I hope the country fails." I hope his kidneys fail--how about that?]
In between his show opener and the expurgated version of Sykes’ routine, Schultz had the hypocrisy to feature, in his “Psycho Talk” segment, Feherty’s [admittedly tasteless] joke fantasizing about the killing of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Schultz condemned Feherty for telling the joke, and radio host Mark Davis for repeating it when he substituted for Rush today.
“Insanity” and “sick” were Schultz’s words for the Feherty joke. Fine. But why didn’t Schultz have the intellectual consistency to condemn Sykes for her death wish—or the integrity to include it in his video clip of her routine?

Hypocrisy, thy name is Ed Schultz.
Oh, and he’s not only a hypocrite, he’s dishonest.
