We Don’t Need Obama To Tell Us What Cars We Want

Maybe it’s my inner rebellious child, but it bugs me to be told what I want.  And if there’s someone I especially don’t want telling me that, it’s some do-gooder from the government.

So when Carol Browner made the morning show rounds today, claiming that Pres. Obama’s new, higher MPG standards are “giving Americans the cars they want,” it really got under my skin.

Oh, and then of course there’s the little thing about what she said being . . . demonstrably false.

Her message was the same on all the nets.  Here’s how PBO’s assistant for energy and climate change put it on Today.

CAROL BROWNER: We found a way to give the predictability and certainty that they need to make the investments in cleaner, at the same time giving the public what they want, which are more fuel-efficient cars.

If the public wanted more fuel-efficient cars, they wouldn’t need the government to force auto makers to build them.  The manufacturers would  be falling over each other to provide gas-sippers.

And of course, there are lots of fuel-efficient cars already on dealer lots . . . with most attracting more bird-droppings than buyers.  Recently reported US hybrid sales from Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Toyota fell by 45.5 per cent on a year-to-year basis.  Sales of the Prius, the name synonymous with hybrid fuel-efficiency, fell an astounding 61.5%.

So please, Pres. Obama, don’t tell us what we want.  We’ll figure that out for ourselves, and manufacturers will scramble to meet the demand. It’s called capitalism.

    What do you expect, Mark?
These Obamabots are the same people who tell us that “going green” is what’s going to get us out of this recession and provide economic prosperity!

Facts??? They don’t need no stinking facts!!

Yeah, the public “want” fuel efficient cars. They would LOVE an SUV that gets 50 mpg. But faced with the trade-off of mpg vs. roominess and convenience, they will forfeit the mpg.

The manufacturers tried to figure out what the demand was, and they failed-hence GM and Chrysler requiring government bailouts.

True, Jedidiah. And that’s all part of capitalism, too. Manufacturers like Toyota figured out what cars people wanted, and managed to build them with non-union labor, and succeeded. GM didn’t and deserves to fail.

Capitalism has a funny way of weeding out the products and services that do not fit their customers’ needs. Just look at the newspaper business.

I said it was bad news when Browner was named EPA Czar…and I wasn’t kidding, I watched her for years, hearings and all, she is a dangerous leftist witch…O didn’t put here where she is for no reason, plus there is always the Clintoon connection.

God help us this country in the next four years…we are going to need it.
