Ford: Don’t Arrest Man In His Own Home, Whether His Name’s Gates, Johnson . . . or Finkelstein

video management, video solution, video streaming Could Harold Ford, Jr. be a fan?  On Morning Joe today, the former-congressman-turned-professor, commenting on the Cambridge brouhaha, said:

“I think, look, the guy [Officer Crowley] did the right thing. My only question is once you determine there was no break-in, guy may be yakking off, I don’t care if he’s black or white, his name is Gates or Johnson . . . or Finkelstein. You don’t arrest a guy in his home.”

Thank you, Harold, for recognizing the kind of profiling to which people like me are routinely subjected.  As I wrote to Morning Joe, why, just the other day there I was in my home, minding my own business, when a police officer entered and asked for ID.  When he saw my name was Finkelstein, he immediately hand-cuffed me on suspicion of being an ultra-Orthodox rabbi and asked if I’d been in Secaucus lately.

I do blog about Morning Joe more than any other show. Could Ford be a secret FinkelBlog/NewsBusters reader?

These morons need to read the police report. Gates was arrested for drawing a crowd outside his home, not because he was black/the cop was racist/Gates didn’t produce ID, or any combination thereof.

The cop acted appropriately, Gates did not.

LOL Mark…you sure are popular…first you had Progressive putting you up on their big board as Mark F….and now you’re being dragged into this!!

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m thinking the ol’ race-conscious professor was trying to put a “white” name and a “Jewish-sounding” name alongside his…what do you think?

Also…he was not arrested “in” his home….he wasn’t arrested until he was throwing a fit outside and attracting a crowd.

According to every account I have read, Gates was arrested on his front porch.

What was Officer Crowley supposed to do? Drag him out into the street first?
